Despite our best efforts at Coola Studios, and countless man hours invested in new developments, it has become apparent that we can no longer afford to continue development of our systems and products.
Growing operating costs, lack of qualified employees and a serious lack of public interest from both local and national interests; we can no longer continue with our growing losses.

So my mother received an interesting phone call today from a telemarketer in the Philippines.
The telemarketer asked if we were happy with our long distance provider and if we would like to which. We knew right away that something was wrong, because the call was coming from the Philippines and it happens to be fact that we only have one long distance provider in the Yukon.

Northwestel quietly updates there DSL service details on there website after mistakenly changing the overage fees from $10 dollars per Gigabyte to $100 dollars per Gigabyte.
Northwestel claims the error was due to a decimal error on there behalf and no changes have been made the overage fees.
Currently the fees stay the same at $10 dollars per Gigabyte and 1 cent per Megabyte.

Northwestel DSL Internet users to pay insanely larger overage fees beginning July 1, 2010.
Northwestel has made some changes to there Internet usage measurements, the change now measures Internet usage in Gigiabytes instead of Megabytes. Potentially this can mean that the value of Megabytes is now meaningless since Northwestel is now providing “massive” amounts of data usage to there customers. Ideally we wish this was true, but Northwestel has never made any changes to there Internet usage caps since the early 2000’s when Northwestel stopped providing unlimited usage.

~Northwestel
What exactly will change with there rates is not currently known to me, but we can all pray for lower rates.
Update: [Northwestel to Raise Internet Rates June 1, 2010]
Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) will never be in the Yukon.
Northwestel will never allow you to substitute one service with another. Using your Internet service to replace your phone will never happen.
- Northwestel does not provide enough Internet service usage per month to support VOIP
- Northwestel limits the VOIP protocol when calling out. (IP to phone)
- Northwestel will never support additional features for VOIP like 911
- Northwestel will never allow the use of phone numbers to be assigned to VOIP services
