After putting this project off for sometime, I have not forgotten it.
I have decided on the profile builder file system and what the useless color buttons on the remote will do.

The profile file system will use a xml style system, profiles will have an option for key toggling for typing and the color buttons will be used for toggling multiply profiles for one program.

Projects: Hauppauge WinTV Remote
(Extended Remote Project)

After putting sometime into setting up my old computer to finally be the media center PC it should be, I have uncovered the following additions to what I have already stated in Part 1.

  • Digital Television Killed the TV Tuner
  • Digital TV has copy protection
  • HTPC TV Tuners can only record TV in Standard Definition
  • HTPC TV Tuners can mainly display only free over the Air High Definition
  • Setting up, and Programing a PC to work with a TV and Remote is hard
  • Lack of compatible TV Outputs

Current Issues:

  • MPEG2 displays with a scan line

This maybe because it is interlaced and not progressive, this scan line that moves across the screen doesn’t happen with progressive video. Currently it’s a small problem and maybe fixable by changing the de-interlacing options on my ATI video card.

Customized WinTV Remote Settings

Recently I’ve gave my old media center PC (HTPC) a new home beside the TV. Since I no longer use it as my primary computer, it is only fitting for it to take it’s rightful place beside the TV for now on.

HTPC’s where mostly popular as a new subject in computer marketing in the early 2000s’, but was a failure due to it’s unfriendly and difficulties to use.

(It’s a computer you can watch TV with and play your media with your entertainment system.) Great idea right? Well yes, but the fact it is a computer and not a high tech VCR means that nothing is simple.

Media Player Displaying Wrong Aspect Ratio

March 31st, 2010 Patcoola No comments

Windows Media Player and many other Windows applications display video(s) with the wrong image dimensions.

People trying to compress or convert video(s) to iPod or any other format using the 16:9 (wide screen) aspect ratio probably have encountered this problem.

The video is in wide screen but Windows Media Player displays the video in Standard Definition (a square.)
